From first call to water test: the stages of a custom glass shower and how long each takes.
Clients usually picture the process as "they show up and install it," but custom glass breaks into four independent stages, each with its own timeline and risks. Understanding that chain helps you schedule a remodel without dead time.
Stage one is consultation and a preliminary quote. From photos, tape-measure dimensions, and the enclosure type we give a price range. That is a budgeting reference, not a final number: exact sizes and hardware come later.
Stage two is the field measure. Our tech comes out once tile is set and grouted, and records not just overall sizes but deviations: wall plumb, plane, corner angles, curb line, drain position. The cut list is calculated from that real geometry.
Stage three is fabrication. Glass is cut, edges are polished, hardware holes are drilled, and then it is tempered. After tempering nothing can be modified, which is why the drawing gets approved before production. Lead time runs one to three weeks depending on glass type and shop load.
Stage four is installation. A typical enclosure takes two to five hours: layout, anchoring, setting the glass, seals, and sealing. Then we run a water test and walk you through care. Sealant needs 24 hours before the first shower.
