Common glass shower install mistakes
Bad measure, cheap seals, and DIY installs — what to avoid to prevent leaks and door play.
Mistake #1 — sizing by eye or with one tape without floor slope and wall bow. Glass doesn’t bend: channel and seals can hide play only so far. Result: gaps, a crooked door, or constant seepage at the wall.
Mistake #2 — cheap hardware under a heavy panel. Hinges and connectors must match thickness and weight; sliding rollers must match open cycles. Weak hardware means play, squeaks, and edge damage risk.
Mistake #3 — install without checking drain and joints. Perfect glass won’t save a drain above floor level or sealant on dusty tile. Before handoff, water-test and inspect every vertical and bottom joint.
Mistake #4 — DIY from a video without tempered-glass experience. Panels are heavy, edges hate point impacts, and hardware holes are already set. Wrong assembly order ruins seals and geometry.
